Self-Care Tips for Going Back to School
By Jackie Kretchmer, Community Educator, JCFS Response for Teens
Transitioning from virtual learning to going to school in-person can make students both excited and stressed. While excited to see their friends and teachers in the classroom, they might feel stressed about getting used to a new daily routine and being around more people. Here are some self-care tips for going back to school.
Create a daily schedule
Creating a routine and sticking to it will likely make you feel a lot calmer and more prepared for each day. Some healthy ideas to build into your daily routine are eating three meals each day, sleeping at least 8 hours per night, exercising, taking breaks, and doing something that makes you happy.
Get involved
After over a year of social distancing, you might be craving more social interaction. Check out the clubs and activities that your school offers and go to a meeting for one that sounds like fun! This can be a great way to re-connect with your peers and make new friends over a shared interest.
Talk to someone about how you’re feeling
Transitioning back to in-person school can be challenging. You might feel anxious being in groups of people or you might feel overwhelmed by the different expectations that teachers have for you. You shouldn’t have to go through difficult times alone! Talking to a trusted adult such as a parent, teacher, or social worker can help you process your emotions and cope with your stress.
