David Schwartz has been involved with the Chicago Jewish community throughout his life. His parents’ involvement in various Zionist organizations, Hebrew-speaking groups, and the Jewish United Fund gave David the opportunity to be a part of several Jewish organizations. He’s always felt that the strength of the Jewish community is extremely important, so he has remained active, involved and supportive.

David’s late wife, Elaine, was on the board of JVS Career & Employment and on the Response for Teens Advisory Council, both part of the JCFS family of services. Through Elaine’s leadership, David became passionate about these crucial services for our community.  JVS services connect job seekers and employers by providing career coaching, job training and crucial employment support.  Response for Teens empowers teens to make healthy life choices through leadership development programs, community education and counseling services.

Each year, David continues to honor Elaine’s legacy through two special funds.  The Elaine Schwartz Impact Award, which is presented every year at the JCFS annual meeting, recognizes an area within JCFS that is making a deep impact on our community.  The Elaine Schwartz Summer Intern fund helps support an internship for a high school student who learns about and works on the sexual health and community education programs Response provides our community. 

Over the years, David has gained personal satisfaction from helping others in need and feels fortunate to be able to give back. By meeting with the summer interns and attending the annual meeting, David and his wife, Renee, stay connected to the mission of JCFS and the broader community.
