JCFS Disruptive Behavior Clinic Receives Grant Honoring Lawrence Sherman
A generous grant, honoring the memory of Lawrence “Larry” Sherman, has been made to our Disruptive Behavior Clinic to subsidize children’s assessments funded through Medicaid. Larry was long active with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and has been a strong supporter of JCFS.
Larry found particular passion in supporting the school he attended as a child. When he returned to the school as a volunteer 18 years ago, he discovered that most of the students were living in poverty. Larry reached out to his fellow alumni, and the rest has been history.
Under Larry’s leadership, Friends of Robert Emmet School raised more than $150K to support the growth and development of the Emmet School kids. This included everything from bringing in speakers, class trips and mentoring to sponsoring kids for summer camp and providing them with athletic uniforms.
Larry’s legacy will live on through his dedication to the well-being of the Jewish and broader Chicago communities. He encouraged the Emmet kids to keep giving back – and Larry practiced what he preached.
The JCFS Disruptive Behavior Clinic addresses the needs of families who are experiencing difficulty in managing their child’s behavior or who are concerned with his or her emotional or behavioral regulation.
