As a young adult with disabilities, Kara came to the Duman Opportunity Center looking for help starting her career. She began working with her employment specialist Allen, and expressed her passion for working with children. She guided her through every stage of the job search process, providing individualized support that helped her secure a job as a child-care assistant at a local park district.

Kara’s dedication to her job did not waiver when her work was impacted by COVID-19. As an essential worker, she continued to support the children by providing them with meals. Her supervisors were impressed by her commitment to the children and decided to take her on as a regular staff member. Allen was with her every step of the way as she transitioned into this role, and will follow-up with her for the rest of the year to assure things are going smoothly.
