Jacob's Success Story
Jacob connected with the JCFS Chicago Duman Opportunity Center through his school. Jacob loves cars and has been working on them throughout his life with his family and friends. He hopes to become an auto mechanic, but has struggled to achieve the necessary academic requirements to enroll in an auto mechanic program.
Jacob started working with the Duman Opportunity Center and applied to a handful of positions at pet stores, gyms, and auto-related workplaces. A JCFS business services representative visited an auto repair shop near Jacob’s home. They expressed interest in meeting Jacob because of his previous experience with cars and language skills. Our business services representative assisted Jacob with filling out a job application to work at the repair shop, and shortly after Jacob went to his first ever job interview - and was hired on the spot. Jacob has been working at the repair shop three to four days a week, and has needed minimal support from JCFS staff. He has been receiving training from veteran co-workers on the job. Jacob started out changing oil and cleaning the interiors of cars, and has now moved on to rotating tires and changing brakes. He reports that he enjoys work and has a lot of fun with his co-workers. His supervisor stated that Jacob has "worked hard, and done well."
