5 Queer Sex Ed Resources by and for Young People
By: Brittany Sue Hines
The incoming administration has sparked anxiety and fear for many LGBTQIA+ teens, with crisis hotlines reporting a higher-than-normal volume of calls and messages since last week. Broad claims have been made against comprehensive sex education and promises of an abstinence-only educational future have been made.
Now more than ever, we want to ensure that teens and their trusted adults have access to all of the resources that they need regarding factual and inclusive sexual, mental, and reproductive health and wellness.
In that vein, we want to highlight an article published by The Healthy Teen Network back in April that lists 5 queer sexual education resources created for young people, by young people. The Healthy Teen Network is a reliable and fact-based resource aimed at providing inclusive and affirming sexual and reproductive health education and services. They envision “a world where all adolescents and young adults lead healthy and fulfilling lives."
In the article, author Arianna de la Mancha writes, “I’m constantly in awe of young people who work collectively to fill the gaps in their sex education experiences. It’s incredibly healing to witness what young people are creating for themselves and their communities. Young people take the lead in reimagining, building a society that centers their experiences.”
Take a moment to look through the article linked below and share with the young people in your life. Together, through resource-sharing, kindness, and advocacy, we can continue to empower LGBTQIA+ youth.
